When it comes to Thailand's faltering education system, much attention has been paid to the poor rankings of Thai students in key subjects by domestic and international testers. But educators and policy makers must realise that analytical and critical thinking skills will make students more resilient to upcoming technological changes. Thai students' lack of critical and analytical skills is the product of the rote learning method, embedded across Thai public schools, as well as the hierarchical social and cultural norms in Thai classrooms. Academics point out that analytical and critical thinking skills may be the key to rescuing Thai students from this fate. This means the mindset of policy makers and educators, which does not bode well for the future of Thai students, has to change.
